ipod Dead, then Resurrected

My ipod mini finally died this week. It wasn’t surprising since most batteries for ipods only last 2-3 years. So I had to decide whether to send it to apple for $65 or do it myself. I looked around at battery prices and tutorial videos and decided that doing it myself was the way to go. I found a battery at ipodbattery.com for $16 + $5 ship. Cheapest I could find. The battery comes with a little screw driver as well. And then I found a great tutorial site at ipod how to video.com. The site has great videos for getting this stuff done without hurting your gadgets. Their biggest tip, which is very important, is to only pry open the device with a Plastic tool of some kind. Other tutorial sites I saw used a screw driver or metal tool to pry it open and they damaged the ipod a little each time.

This was a great little learning experience. I always like doing things myself if i can. It is always cheaper that way too. You can do this in under 20 minutes for under $25.

Very useful info. Thanks for posting it. I look forward to the day when one of our iPods dies and I can just come here to fix it.

I also posted it to my Facebook feed, as it seems like the sort of thing that lots of people would find helpful.

Must say I’m impressed…I’d probably have been too intimidated! But I guess if its already dead, what can it hurt?
