Spamalot

spamalot_poster.jpgI just got to see the Musical Monty Python’s Spamalot. This musical as said by the complete title is “a new musical lovingly ripped off from the motion picture Monty Python and the Holy Grail”. As you can tell from the title this musical is exactly in the same comical vein as the movie. They do add and subtract to the story line, but a lot of the movie is there. If you know the movie well you will find yourself saying the lines as they are said on stage.

This is a musical, so almost all songs are new. The thing I loved is that some of the the songs are based off of mocking stereotypical musical plot structure. If you see it you will understand. The musical is also loaded with multiple pop cultural references. There are so many small things done on stage and in song that it would be great to see it again just to see if I missed anything. You really have to be on your game during this show. The jokes come so fast and subtle at times it is hard to keep up. But I love stuff like that.

An extra bonus for me was that I got to see a guy I went to high school with in the musical. Paddy(Patrick) Heusinger is playing Sir Lancelot. In my opinion he has all the great roles in the show and most of the classic characters from the movie.(The French Taunter, Knight of Ni and Tim the Enchanter) It was great to see him on stage again.

This musical is really fun and entertaining. Not a musical I would buy the soundtrack for, but a great time out to the theatre.

“Once”, Twice, Yes I Watched it Three Times

once_l200705081723.jpgTalking over dinner one night my sister told me that she had just received and seen Once.(We are both Netflix subscribers) She told me the basic premise and that it was really good. I forgot of course that she mentioned it and continued with life. A few weeks later I was over at a friends place and sitting on the floor was the movie. Remembering that instant to myself,’oh yeah I didn’t look into this after she told me’. So my friends told me that it was great and myself, being a musician, would probably love it.

Well let me tell you, this is probably one of the best movies I have seen in a while. This movie shot for only $160k(wikipedia) just goes to show that a great script and material can go much further than a huge budget. <cough> pirates movies </cough> If you enjoy great song writing/music and romance stories, this movie is for you. I was sucked in right away with the first solo singing performance. And after the first duet performance you might just want to rewind and listen to it again. I almost did.

Due yourself a favor and rent this. If you don’t like it, I don’t want to talk to you.

Length: 86 minutes (1h 26min)

Rated R for language. They do use the F bomb a bit. Trailer

Dr. Homer’s Miracle Spinal Cylinder

I was surfing through the channels the other day and came across this infomercial. The company and product True Back has this spinal back relief product that you lay on.

True Back

I think this company had been watching the Simpsons way too much lately. Because on an episode of the Simpsons Homer accidentally creates a back pain reliever from a metal trash can. It acts just like this, in that you lay on it and your vertebra line up with the ridges. I don’t know if they got the idea from the show or not but I thought it was pretty comical.

About Will Hall Music

I want this to be a place where music is free if you want it to be. I don't want to be famous or rich, I just want to be able to pay my bills. If you like the music, download it and listen to it. If you feel led to donate, that is a bonus for me.
